It’s March 2023 and the time is flying by! In January, we hit the ground running after overdosing on holiday cookies and extended family, only to find ourselves facing burnout and lack of motivation.

Friends, I am exhausted - are you too?

Are you tired of feeling like you're constantly running behind? With such busy schedules, obligations and desires, it’s quite easy to become overwhelmed with the day’s events.

Do you feel like you can never seem to get everything done?

Like me, would you totally benefit from another hour or 6 in a day? If so, then it sounds like you could use some help with time management. We can’t materialize more time; we can, however, manipulate and control how we utilize it.

Time management is a struggle for most women. We feel like we have to do it all and never get a break. And it doesn't have to be that way. Luckily for you, I have some tricks to share, helping you get back in control of your time.

In this blog post, we will discuss time management strategies that will help busy women like you get more done each day. So sit down, put your feet up, and let's get started!

Why are time management skills important?

First, let's talk about why time management is important. Time management helps you to prioritize tasks, plan ahead, set realistic goals, and be more productive throughout the day. It allows you to make time for yourself and focus on what matters most. This makes it easier to stay organized and on top of your work.

By taking charge of your time, you can avoid the feeling of being overwhelmed and enjoy life to its fullest. It can also help to reduce stress, as time management allows you to plan out your time and make sure everything is done on time.

Now let's dive into the time management strategies that will help you get more done each day!

1. Planning and scheduling

The first time management strategy is planning and scheduling. Taking time to plan out your day can be incredibly helpful in staying organized and on task. Start by writing down all of the tasks you need to complete for the day, week, or month. Then prioritize them based on importance.

Think small, choose the top 3 tasks perhaps. This will help you to figure out which tasks need to be done first and make time for them while also not overwhelming yourself with a bunch of stuff to do!

After planning, scheduling your time is the next step. Create a schedule that works with your lifestyle. This can include setting specific time blocks for work or other tasks like exercise or relaxation time.

By mapping out your day and sticking to it, you'll be able to stay on track and get more done. This creates routine and stability, giving you something daily to ground in and count on.

2. Create a routine

Speaking of, creating a routine is another time management strategy that can help you stay on top of your tasks. Having a routine allows you to engage in each day with intent and purpose, so it's important to create one that works for you.

Your routine should include time for self-care, time for work, time for relaxation, and time for hobbies. When creating your routine, make sure to be realistic and set achievable goals that you can stick to.

Doesn’t matter if it’s a night time regiment or a morning practice, choose times in the day to block out and protect. This will help you stay focused and productive throughout the day. You may even get excited each morning knowing you’ve already set your future self up for success with this time.

3. Take breaks

It's important to remember that taking breaks is an essential time management strategy. To perfectionists and busy bees, this may sound nuts. You are only human and it's impossible to be productive 24/7. Allowing yourself time for breaks throughout the day can help to keep you energized, focused, and motivated.

Make time for short breaks throughout the day, such as taking time for a quick walk around the block or grabbing a snack. Taking a break from time to time will give your mind the chance to rest and recharge. It also allows you to come back to tasks with more energy and creativity. So if you're feeling overwhelmed or stuck on a task, take a break and come back to it with a fresh mind.

Want something done, the old adage goes, ask a busy person. They have mastered the balance between rest and work. The breaks are necessary and a part of the process.

4. Set boundaries

Setting boundaries is key when it comes to time management. This means creating time limits for yourself and saying no to tasks that don't align with your goals or values. Setting boundaries can help you prioritize the most important tasks first and avoid time-wasting activities.

When setting boundaries, be clear about what you need and communicate it with others. This will ensure that others are aware of your time needs and won't take advantage of them.

For example, if you have a time limit that needs to be met, let your colleagues know in advance and then politely decline any additional tasks or requests. This may provoke anxiety and be out of character for you: do it anyway.

In time, you will grow comfortable saying NO, setting limits, and expressing your wants and needs. In turn, you will teach your audience how to best respect you as well as trust when you say NO, you mean it.

5. Use technology

Using technology is another time management strategy that can help you stay organized and on top of your tasks. There are many time-tracking apps available that can help you manage your time more effectively, such as Toggl or TrackingTime.

Project management tools like Trello or Asana are also great for staying organized and on track. With these tools, you can easily create to-do lists and set deadlines for tasks.

Don’t hesitate to use old faithful, the phone alarm. Need a 30 minute nap? Set a timer on your Apple watch. Need to clock out at 5pm? Set a phone alarm on your Android. Make your expensive tech work for you!

6. Ask for help

Asking for help is another time management strategy that can be incredibly beneficial. Don't be afraid to ask for assistance if you're feeling overwhelmed or stuck on a task. It's important to remember that it's ok to ask for help when you need it!

Reaching out to friends, family members, or colleagues can help you stay on track and get more done. Know ahead of time who you can lean on for support at work, at home, in your friend group and in your love life. Letting others support you can be tough, while it also saves time and your precious energy.

7. Get enough sleep

Getting enough sleep can dramatically improve time management. When you're well-rested, your mind is better able to stay focused and on task. This is a given, despite it being challenging for us all.

It's important to prioritize getting a good night's rest each night and make time for adequate sleep. Put electronics away before bed and practice healthy sleep hygiene. Make sure you are sticking to your routine and avoiding late nights, as this can throw off your time management and make it harder to stay on track.

8. Delegate or outsource tasks:

Delegating tasks is a great time management strategy if you have too much on your plate. If you're feeling overwhelmed or stuck, it may be time to delegate some of your tasks to someone else who can help.

Delegating tasks can help free up time and energy so that you can focus on the most important tasks. You may also decide to outsource certain tasks to professionals or freelancers who can help you get them done quickly and efficiently.

9. Reward yourself:

Finally, time management also includes rewarding yourself for a job well done! Whether it's a small reward such as taking time to relax or enjoying your favorite treat, make sure to give yourself recognition for the hard work you do.

Rewarding yourself is important because it helps you stay motivated and on track. It can also help to break up the monotony of daily tasks and give you something to look forward to!

Conclusion

Time management is an important skill to have, especially for busy women. As the pandemic has shifted our lives to a more remote and digital lifestyle, the lines between work and home have become increasingly blurred.
